It’s been a very busy Winter 2018 and Spring 2019, although it’s been quiet on this blog! The last few months have seen us building the commercial photography side of Mirror Imaging Photography, redesigning the website and working with an ever growing client base of creatives, small businesses and Plc’s. We’ve been spending time with the family’s of past wedding clients, capturing their loved ones, life achievements and growing babies! In January I was able to draw on twelve years industry experience and deliver a lecture to The Nottingham Trent University photography students on what running a business in photography is really like. I’ve also spent some precious time reconnecting with drawing (posting on my art page!), as well as working quietly on an exciting fine art photography project that I will be launching soon.
Accordingly our wedding season is a quiet one this year, and we are photographing weddings by request, rather than from any kind of intensive marketing. The utterly lovely side effect is we get to work with couples who seek us out, who really appreciate the quality and colour in our photographs, love our work ethos and for whom no other photographer will do! How lucky are we.
Sally and Ian’s wedding is getting closer, and it was time to take some pre-wedding images ahead of their Kelmarsh Hall wedding in early August. We planned the engagement shoot date weeks ago and happened to picked THE hottest day this summer. No matter; we had tree shade and backlight galore, and plenty of cold fizzy water afterwards. Sally and Ian are great company to spend time with, very gracious and kind, and clearly so good together. Read More
Yesterday we met up with Jemma and Damon, who are tying the knot next week at the Southwell Minster with a Norwood Park reception! There was much laughter as we walked and talked, taking photographs along the way. After ten years together, it’s clear how natural and genuine the affection is between them, which was lovely to capture. They’ve made some gorgeous choices for their wedding day too, and we’re looking forward to working with Zinc Floral Design again. Read More
It was all brilliant smiles and sunshine earlier today, as we met up with Rohini and Greg at the gorgeous Nottingham University gardens. The weather was hot hot hot with full sun, which is a challenge in itself to photograph in, but we made the most of it with some beautiful backlight. Ro and Greg are having us photograph their two day celebration - a huge Indian wedding at Kelham Hall for over 250 guests, and then a civil ceremony the next day in the centre of Nottingham. Roll on August! Read More
Last Friday we met up with Jo and Joe, who are our next couple to marry at the beginning of June. They're holding their ceremony at the magnificent Southwell Minster followed by a chilled out, party reception at The Old Vol gastro pub. What a cool mix of venues. We met in the centre of Nottingham, at one of the city's pretty parklands, and had a relaxed 'photo-walk' and chat. Flowers are starting to bloom at this time of year, and we also caught the last of the pink cherry blossom. A shortage of a baby-sitter meant they brought their adorable 9 month old baby girl, who we've met twice before at a wedding fair and our first meeting. She watched the proceedings quietly and without any fuss, before agreeing to take part... and then stole the show ;) We can't wait to photograph this beautiful family's special day next month. Over the weekend we met up with Holly and Emma, who are marrying next month at one of Mirror Imaging's favourite wedding venues: Norwood Park in Southwell. Not only is it close by, but the team at Norwood are so can-do and accommodating; weddings really are a passion to them, and they'll do everything they can to make it right. Holly and Emma got in touch via a recommendation by the venue, and we met again in a secluded green space to capture their pre-wedding shoot. These engagement sessions can happen a long while after an actual proposal, but they're so valuable for re-connecting with our couples, and to shake out any apprehension about being photographed. We also go through and plan the big day afterwards, something all my couples love as it starts to make it all seem so real, and gives some very solid reassurance of how the wedding day will flow. Here's my picks from Holly and Emma's pre-wedding photoshoot... Read More
Yesterday we met up with Gemma and Phil in Nottingham. Gemma's a makeup artist and she's worked with a lot of brides and, like me, seen so many different styles of wedding. So when it came to her big day plans, she and her husband-to-be Phil wanted to keep things super simple. Even a photographer wasn't a priority at first, but after speaking on the phone and Gemma falling in love with a Mirror Imaging wedding in Melbourne, it was clear that we were on the same wavelength. They changed their minds and I'm so glad they did! As complete naturals in front of the camera, it was a joy to take their engagement photographs. The laughter and connection is genuine, which of course makes for beautiful images. After a small pocket of good weather we made our way indoors to make wedding plans, and right on cue the heavens opened! I couldn't resist getting a couple more photos in the hotel bar. Read More
A few days ago we met up with Alice and James who are marrying this September in a church ceremony with friends and family, followed by a celebration at Nottingham University. We met on a summery day in Nottingham, when everything around us was in full bloom, reminding me how beautiful our city is! We had some fun chatting and taking natural photographs, before we went for a drink to go through their wedding plans together. Alice requested a piggy back photo at the end, and I'm so glad she did as it's one of my favourites. Here are their perfect moments: Read More
On Thursday we met with Natalie and Luke for the first time, who have flown in from Australia to stay with Natalie's parents. It's one of the few times they'll be in the UK ahead of their wedding next March at Kelham House. They're catching up with family and friends in the UK, having their engagement shoot of course and Natalie has started the important job of wedding dress shopping with her mum! I chose the castle grounds in Newark to meet up at the bandstand as it's a pretty, green and leafy location, and we were blessed with a beautifully sunny day. After a walk around the park and along the river, we finished with a drink at a nearby bar to make wedding plans. Read More
On Thursday we met with Sarah and Karl who are marrying early next month in their local village church, with their wedding reception at the newly opened Hazel Gap Barn. We chose Rufford Park for their pre-wedding photographs as it has special significance to Sarah and Karl, with Sarah visiting regularly as a child and bringing their children here too. She also always imagined her wedding day photographs to be taken with the Abbey in the background, so this was the next best thing! We walked around the gardens and the rain just about held off. Here are our favourites from their session. Read More
Yesterday we met with Alan and James, together with their beautiful and exuberant golden retriever Ezio, to capture some engagement images ahead of their winter wedding at the end of January at Norwood Park. It was a cold, crisp day but the sun was bright, perfect for a photo-walk and pre-wedding plans afterwards in the pub. Read More
Today we met with Amy and Nick who are marrying early December in Burton Joyce, with their wedding reception at Kelham House Hotel in Newark. We chose Rufford Park for their pre-wedding photographs and it was a beautiful, crisp Autumn day, with the trees ablaze with reds, oranges and yellows. We walked toward the lake, stopping along the way when a pretty backdrop caught our eye. Here are our favourites from their session. Read More
We met with Kate and Richard yesterday for their engagement shoot ahead of their wedding later this month. They're holding a small wedding for just 20 guests at St James Hotel in Nottingham and then the wedding party is walking down to an intimate drinks and dinner reception at World Service Restaurant. It should be a beautiful day. We got the very best of Autumn yesterday, for just long enough before it started to rain, with some stunning foliage providing a vibrant backdrop. Read More
Last weekend we met up with Gemma and Alastair at Newstead Abbey for their engagement shoot. As they booked me over the phone for their wedding next month, it was the first time we'd met; the engagement shoot is a brilliant way of getting to know each other before the big day and make important wedding plans. The sun was beating down and we took a walk around the lake area and back up to the carpark, pausing to capture Gemma's bling. Oh, and they brought along their gorgeous Jack Russell Bailey, who absolutely loved having his photograph taken - look at that doggy smile! Read More
It was the first time we'd met Natasha and Sam at the weekend, as they booked me for their wedding over the phone. They easily got the hang of having their photo taken, showing a natural affection for one another. We're looking forward to their big day at Kelham House in August. Fingers crossed they get amazing sunshine on their wedding day too! Read More
Taking full advantage of this glorious heatwave we're enjoying, we met with Philippa and Richard at the weekend for their engagement shoot. They're marrying next month at the historical Southwell Minster with their wedding reception at Langar Hall. We took a walk together around one of my favourite local beauty spots to show how enjoyable and effortless it can be to have your photograph taken, and caught some genuine laughter shared between them. Philippa's gorgeous bling got full attention at the end of the session as we stopped to smell the roses! Read More
Grace and James are getting married in June in the church near Grace's parents' home, with a private marquee wedding reception and BBQ for all their guests to follow. We timed their engagement photoshoot perfectly to catch the best of the recent heatwave weekend, wandering around the blossom trees in the sunshine before planning out their wedding timings and discussing all the details. They are a lovely couple and we're very much looking forward to capturing their big day. Read More
On Sunday morning we met up with Lydia and Andy, ahead of their wedding at Norwood Park next month. I went to school with Lydia, so it's great to reconnect and I'm also really touched to be able to capture such an important occasion in her life. We started with a few relaxed photographs as we walked around the local countryside. Cue lots of laughter from Lydia and Andy - after all, the couple that laughs together, stays together! Read More
Last week we met with Vanessa and Adam for their engagement shoot at Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire. It was a very cold, crisp winter's day but the sunshine was out, along with the snow drops, hinting that spring is just around the corner. Their wedding next month, at their community church Trent Vineyard and reception at Thrumpton Hall, is the first of our wedding season. They booked Mirror Imaging after we photographed the wedding of their friends, Bethan and Josh, last year.
After walking round the lake and stopping in all the sunny spots, we warmed up with some wedding planning over drinks at the nearby Hutt pub. Here's my favourite moments from their pre-wedding photoshoot. Read More
Katie and Paul are from Plymouth, but they're holding their wedding in Nottingham in September, with a church ceremony and wedding reception at The Trent Building at Nottingham University. We met up at Kelham House to wander around the gardens, take some photographs and then plan out their big day. Read More
Dawn contacted me a while back after seeing me on Kelham House's list of recommended photographers and after speaking on the phone, she booked me for her wedding to Nick in July. It will be an intimate affair, no bridesmaids or best man, just a small number of their closest friends and family. This will be a lovely wedding to photograph; relaxed, personal and meaningful. We met up in Farnsfield to take a photo-walk amongst the trees and greenery, not forgetting a close-up of Dawn's incredibly pretty and unique pale sapphire engagement ring. Read More
